Dance Workshops

Step Dance Workshops

I have been teaching percussive step dance for over 25 years. I have taught a weekly class for Scottish Culture and Traditions (SCaT) in Aberdeen for 20 of those years. I have also taught at community workshops, in schools in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, at fèisean (Gaelic arts tuition festivals) in Aberdeen, Inverness (Gaelic-medium), Golspie, Callander and Fèis Rois; and have taught and performed in Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, and in Cape Breton.

 I can teach:

Individual and group workshops:

Introductory dance classes where you will learn some basic strathspey, jig and reel steps Whenever possible, I use live music.

A series of lessons:

For individuals/groups. These build on steps learned at the introductory class(es). You will build up a repertoire of steps and movements and begin to recognise the different types of dance music. Whenever possible, I use live music.

Ceilidh Dance Workshops

Ceilidh dance is an enjoyable, easy, inclusive and friendly form of Scottish social dancing. All dances are taught and walked through by the caller (me) and then danced to live music. These dances are so easy that you can be dancing them within minutes.

I have called and played the piano in a ceilidh dance band for many years.

Possibilities:

Workshops, parties, weddings, fundraising functions, or just because you and some friends want to have an enjoyable time dancing to Scottish music.

Francis Peacock…

… was the first person to publish Scottish (Highland) dance steps in 1805. Here’s a very short clip of my interpretation of some of these steps.
